Faction history:

Humanity, from their beginning, has been a race of individualists and warmongering people. Humanity has always seen war as the answer to their problems. It was war that shaped their nations, shaped their people, and shaped their lives.

The earliest example of a war machine can be seen in the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire began as a small city in circa 753 BC. From this, it grew into a mighty Republic that flexed its muscles across a majority of the known world. From here, it would finally turn into an Empire, showing nearly unlimited power and unmatched prowl against all who dared to face it. Utilizing keen battle tactics, a heavy pride on combat and patriotism, and of course training that refined the average man into a rank and file soldier, the Roman Empire was able to create the first human war machine.

Ancient Roman soldiers engaging Barbarians

In 400 AD, the Roman Empire had seemed to be on its last legs. It owned nearly all of the known world, it was by far the largest single power Astrica had ever seen. However, it was overstretched and was facing increasing internal problems. External pressures such as tribes did all they could to bang on the doors of the Empire. However, in 450 AD, the Roman Empire took a bold move.

It retreated it’s legions from non-important regions, abandoning those regions to return the legions home. Rome was able to bring home forty legions -- 200,000 soldiers to defend the core regions of the Empire. Italy, the Balkans, and Greece. These men returned home and valiantly defended the Empire. By 476AD, the Empire had re-balanced. The sturdy borders meant internal conflicts could be solved. People began to return to a normal life.

This was not the end of warfare for the Empire. Humans never know an end to conflict. Emperors, for the most part, did not expand territory anymore, but however took legions out to engage tribals on a regular basis to ensure that their numbers did not get too high. This ritual, known as the Aqeuatis, or plural Aqeuati (Latin for balancing, or to bring balance) not only continued to bring pride to Rome, but also offered endless plunder from their raids.

With Rome no longer in control of regions such as Gaul, Britannia, Iberia, and countless other regions, these regions would achieve the chance to grow. Rome typically targeted Germania for Aqeuati, as they saw it not only as a challenge, but the root of most of their tribal issues. The Gauls would eventually begin to rise to power as prominent and organized people, however war was waged upon these Gauls by a Frank, known as Charlemagne. He came from the Low Countries, conquering all in his way. He conquered the the Low Countries and forced his way into Gaul, where he would stop his conquest. Here, he would be named the King of the Franks, and establish the Frankish Kingdom, or simply Francia. King Charlemagne would establish a deal with the Roman Empire, freeing his people from the practice of Aqeuatis.

In 1532, France would make a formal request to Britain to allow Britain all it’s territory. Due to the deep ties between royalties, this deal was accepted, and Britain would peacefully annex France’s lands.

From here, nations would rise and grow normally, minus nations within the Empire’s border. Germany would develop much slower, under constant attacks until the unification of Germany in 1871. This would put an end to the constant raids of Germany.

The United States of America, growing quickly and constantly across the Atlantic, now found itself in the War of 1812 against the British Empire and her Native American allies. The British quickly found themselves with the same problems that granted America it’s independence, an unwillingness to fight across such a large distance. While America had the full advantages of fighting on familiar territory and with real passion, British troops were often unmotivated and were in an alien world. However, America did attempt sea assault of Britain in early 1814. The assault was a massive failure, however, it was the only failure on the American part during the war. A successful invasion of British forces in Canada swept most of Britain's garrisons off of North America.

At the end of the War of 1812, America would prove the victor. As part of the treaty of peace, Britain would grant America Cananda, completely abandoning their North American aspirations and turning to more prominent regions such as India to focus on for colonial benefits. The United States was now the second largest nation on Astrica.

Easily the most advanced nation in all of Astrica, Rome surprisingly remained neutral in World War one, due to internal conflicts, the Romans saw it wise to fix these problems before engaging in warfare. By the time they were fixed, the war was over.

The United States of America was proving to become an effective empire across the Atlantic ocean. While they joined the war late, they were the final nail in the coffin for the Central Powers, who were just gaining the upperhand. 800,00 fresh American troops paved a way to victory in Europe.

Japan after World War 1 would begin to launch operations against mainland Asia. They would begin with a total invasion of Korea, a successful one at that. With a foothold in Asia, they would deploy two masses of forces and converge onto China, completely obliterating the under trained troops. While outnumbered, Japan was able to tactically outplay China. China was under Japanese control by 1939.

At this time, World War 2 would begin. Germany, blitzkrieging through Poland and the Low Countries. However, when they hit Britain-controlled France, they suffered a major dillema, coming to a complete halt. Rome, pursued to the promise of more German blood, easily took this to flank the Germans with a horrendous attack that would completely cripple the German war machine. The only saving grace of the Germans was the German ability to unite Russia, Romania, and Hungary. This coalition of forces crashed onto the Roman Empire, granting the Germans enough time to recover and focus their efforts into fighting Britian. Axis, larger than ever, gave the Allies a hard fight. While Rome never officially joined the Allies, they did fight with them.

The United States joined the war early in 1941, sending 700,000 troops to Italy to assist the Romans in battle. This greatly shifted the tide of the war, giving the Roman-American forces a small gap to turn into a routing point for all of front line forces. The Romans and Americans pursued relentlessly.

As 1942 rolled around, the attack on Pearl Harbor would happen much earlier, forcing half of the American forces out of Italy to engage the incredibly powerful Japanese. The additional forces from the Canadian civilian pool helped greatly with the war effort for America. The Americans would begin their island-hopping campaign against the Japanese as the war raged on in Europe.

Through unforgiving battles and merciless tactics, what was left of the Roman-American forces were able to capitalize on the routing Axis, they would capture and execute thousands of prisoners as Roman forces began to divert to flank German forces on the British front. Russia would continue to relentlessly pound the American frontlines, however, the Americans held their ground.

With the development of the Atomic Bomb, the United States would not hesitate to use the weapon against its enemy. Four atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, utterly destroying the Southern regions and forced a quick unconditional surrender from the Japanese Emperor.

At the same time, the Allies in Europe had forced Axis back to Berlin and to Moscow. The Allies knew enough about Russia to understand an attack on Moscow was suicide. Instead, the Allies dropped four bombs on the Russian cities of Moscow, Kaliningrad, Stalingrad, and Friedland.

World War 2 would officially end on December 12th, 1946. From here, humanity had thought it’d seen the worse of its warfare. However, humanity did not learn from this experience and continued to wage war. Proxy wars would spring up, initiated by major nations.

For the next 100 years, the nations of Astrica would continue to grow at a steady rate. Corporations always had took interest in interstellar affairs, however, in 2048, the first ship capable of quick travel within the Sol system was devised. It was capable of reaching Capulus in a matter of a day, making the once intangible goal of space colonies and exploits a reality. While an internationally agreement made nations claiming pieces of space, it did not stop businesses and funded organizations from doing so. Thousands of people from nations across Astrica would flood to become the first colonists to the barren world Capulus, where New Chicago was formed in 2049.

New Chicago, 2049

New Chicago, 2142

However, the year 2052 would the most important year in human history. A corporate funded space flight had successfully left the Sol system, utilizing ‘warp’ technology to accelerate beyond the speed of light. Humanity had achieved what it thought was impossible. The ability to travel amongst the stars.

Colonies were established in these new systems. Corporations funded by large nations on Astrica were amazingly well maintained and well-kept due to the seemingly unending fuel to explore the stars.

However, this serene moment in history was coming to a quick halt. With tensions growing on Astrica between nations, a new enemy that humanity could not have been prepared for struck with intent.

An Alien race, known as the Galakorians, ambushed a colony in the Merdium system, completely annihilating it. The Galakorians chased all ships off and destroyed any they could catch. The Galakorians wasted no time hunting more humans in the system, luckily for humanity, the Merdium star was very unpopulated. An emergency meeting of nations and corporations was called in Astrica.

A Galakorian

After an intense debate, a vote was called. The vote was to allow the formation of a united body to represent Astrica and humanity. The vote was overwhelming passed, and all nations with ties to interstellar activity were allowed representatives inside of the faction, with an elected leader. And thus, the United Human Systems was formed, and it’s first elected leader - Octavian Augustus, a highly influential general for the Roman Empire.

Immediately, efforts went to building defenses. The Roman general knew that they would need to first defend their territory before attempting to go onto the offense. What nobody expected was a drawn out, fifty eight year war with the Galakorians.

The Galakorians fought the humans relentlessly, yet humanity was always able to keep the Sol System secured, never once did a Galakorian fight its way to Astrica or the system. In the conflict, over one billion humans were lost between colonies and fighting. Every engagement for the humans was a sure loss. Until the year 2099 -- the year that the UHS unveiled the Dreadnought-Class Warship. Outgunning and outsizing anything the Galakorians had put out, the Dreadnought Class utilized a massive, incredibly powerful railgun that could rip through the advanced shielding of the Galakorians and tear their hull to pieces with a single shot. With a newly adopted space doctrine, humanity took the fight to the ‘Xenos’.

On land however, the battle still seemed heavily in favor of the Galakorians, who used powerful beam weaponry to tear through infantry and even soft mechanized vehicles. In late 2099, however, the S1 Battlewalker was released, the first ever combat ready model. It fought it’s first battles on the human colonial world of Demeter, where Galakorians faced no match against it’s powerful weaponry. The S1 would continued to be improved on until the S4 edition would come out near the end of the war.

In 2104, humanity was able to capture a large cruiser class from the Galakorians. Typically, their ships would self destruct upon defeat, however, humanity developed a countermeasure to this, allowing them to board the ship and trace back the homeworld of the Galakorians.

In just a Star Cluster over, the Galakorian homeworld of Galakor awaited. The first stage of the invasion was a non-stop orbital bombardment. Once the human fleet broke through the Galakorian defenses, Humanity used what it had best, kinetic energy. It dropped massive rods of Tungsten from orbit onto the planet, delivering an ungodly amount of kinetic force that would tear the surface to shreds, causing unimaginable collateral damage. This would continue for a month, striking nearly every region of Galakor

After the bombardment was complete, the UHS rallied the nations of Astrica for a final assault. In a moving speech by Admiral Earl Augustus, the grandson of the first leader of the UHS, rallying all humans for one last fight.  Humanity mounted every ship, every soldier, every battlewalker, and everything they had and launched the most ambitious invasion in human history. In addition to the UHS massive pool of soldiers, every nation of Astrica contributed fighting men to the force. The UHS, with the help of the additional forces, was able to organize 70 army groups of infantry, creating an infantry force of 10,304,000 troops to deploy onto the homeworld. Roughly 350,000 tanks were mounted with approximately 10,000 battlewalkers, most still earlier versions but they would get the job done. 125,000 dropships were loaded with countless other assets.

One day later, the UHS would unleash their battle plan onto the Galakorian homeworld, annihilating anything and everything. Rules of engagement were simple. “Kill anything not from Astrica.”

The Galakorians were not defeated in the First Contact War. They were essentially wiped from the Galaxy. After a six month long long invasion, all human forces had disengaged from the planet, and the combined fleet of humanity led a two month long, constantly bombardment of the planet. Galakor is now a tomb world, completely unusable by any organic race, realistically. Any Galakorians left on the planet have been reduced to a life of scavenging for survival, having no hope of ever leaving their planet again. Last reports state that small bands have formed on the planet surface and have begun warring with each other, and now the Galakorians have retreated into a primitive and primal life style.

After the brutal First Contact War, humanity returned to it’s Star Cluster. For forty years, the UHS has been cutting down on its number of equipment yet still keeps a strong, large, and ready military. In 2120, the UHS became the official ruling power over all of Humanity in an election. An Emperor was named, Emperor Marcus Steele.

Now, in 2142, humanity prepares to once again step out from its local cluster. With no alien contact since the First Contact War, it is unsure what it will find. But what all humans do know is one thing -- if it strikes at humanity, humanity will prevail. It always has. It always will.

High Command:
The Imperium High Command is centralized, administratively based on the home world. The Highest rank in the military other than Commander-In-Chief is the Lord Militant, the overall supreme commander of all forces. Under the Lord Militant are the administrative high command positions, the Chiefs of the Army and Navy as well as the Chief of Planetary Guards, Director of Imperial Intelligence and Marshal-Imperator of the Imperial Vanguard.

Deployed forces are led by an group of experienced, educated and well trained Field Marshals, the Imperators. An Imperator is given command of a Fleet and the Army forces assigned to said fleet. Under the Imperator is the Admiral who commands the fleet and the Legate who commands the Legion attached to the fleet. Imperators coordinate between ground and naval forces making their support of each other a deadly and efficient doctrine against any enemy.

A Human Imperator

Naval Forces:
The Navy is commaned at the field by an Imperator. At the top of the chain, however, is the Naval Chief of Staff who handles administration for the entire Navy.

The Navy is made up of several fleets, controlled at a central level. They patrol owned space or standby at strategic positions, ready to respond at a moments notice. Whatever job they carry out, each fleet is uniform, ready to perform any needed combat task. Fleets are made up of several battlegroups. Each Battlegroup is headed by a dreadnought that carries at most an army brigade and a wing of fighters and dropships at the sides, while the main gun runs through the middle of the ship. The dreadnought is supported by four to five Cruisers which carry At most an Army battalion and needed ordnance and dropships.

A flank of the First Fleet.

Ground Forces:
The Army is tasked two major stations of duty. Typically, Legions are assigned a fleet and accompany that fleet wherever it goes. However, in such cases where more ground forces are needed to break a stalemate or reinforce the surface, additional legions will be temporarily formed for the conflict, typically recruited from the planet or the closest planets.

The Armies Legions are managed by the Army Chief of Staff on the homeworld. A Legions name corresponds with a Fleets name. Legions are broken up into Brigades and further into Cohorts then Companies and platoons. Companies vary widely from Dropship Air Assault Infantry to Mechanized to Scouts. The Versatility of the Army is its strength, an average human with a rifle is nothing without the wide array of fire support, vehicles and pristine command structure. Human doctrine in almost every situation is to go all out, deploying several cohorts at a time under the cover of heavy naval fire support and fire screening. Deploying a legion is never a casual occasion, over killing an enemy is better than letting them run to live another day.

An Infantry Team disembarks from an Assault Gunship.

Garrison Forces:
Each major human planet has a proud garrison; a Planetary Guard. Planetary Guards are citizen soldiers ready to take up arms and act as professional soldiers whenever the time comes. Planetary Guards are technically under the Army but are separated by High Command. While planetary guards are about the same size as regular army units, they don't utilize heavy ordnance and vehicles. Rather, they rely on light vehicles to coordinate the massive guns and static defenses built on the planet. The strength of a planetary guard is typically characterized by the investment of static defenses.

Elite Forces:
Imperial Vanguard:
The Imperial Vanguard is an elite paramilitary of fanatically dedicated soldiers to the UHS and the Emperor. Their most common role is an elite shock trooper unit, armed with the most advanced weapons, armor and technological innovations first to storm the battlefield and the last to leave. While so much is true, they are also the internal troops of the Empire taking on a multitude of roles. One regiment of the Guard is charged with the protection of the emperor and other important military and political figureheads. While another regiment is permanently attached to Imperial Intelligence. No matter the role, the Vanguard is an elite warrior with a strong appearance that can either inspire and motivate or intimidate and demoralize.

Vehicle Information

The UHS deploys a wide range of vehicles. These vehicles play a crucial role in supporting infantry which is critical to all human operations. While these vehicles are not expected to win the battle by themselves, they are expected to play roles that infantry cannot provide or to provide infantry with the needed firepower so that they can complete their task.

S4 'Bliken' Armored Personal Carrier

Short Desc: The S4 Blikens (German for blink) is a rapid armored personal carrier with offensive capability. With a great balance of armor and speed, the Bliken is capable of moving infantry quickly across all types of terrain. Four small chain guns are mounted at the center corners of it, controllable by the crew of five. It can carry up to sixteen troops at one time.

S5 'Strumer' Infantry Fighting Vehicle

Short Desc: The S5 Strumer (German for striker) is an infantry fighting vehicle with light anti-motorized capabilities. Capable of carrying up to eight troops in addition of a four man crew, the S5 Strumer is armed with three weapons. It has two chain guns perfect for anti-infantry use with an additional missile launcher capable of destroying soft cover and soft motorized vehicle and even heavier mechanized vehicles.

S5 'Hussar' Mechanized Walker

Short Desc: The S5 'Hussar' Mechanized Walker is a class of mechanized vehicles with completely offensive capabilities. As pictured above, the height of these walkers can be seen next to an average, 6'1 human male. Walkers stand at 16 feet tall, they are encased in heavy armor and they are equipped with two massive chain guns that can tear even through mechanized armor, with a rocket battery on top of it's "head" capable of firing up to forty eight rockets before needing to be re-stocked. Walkers are the creme of humanity's mechanized capabilities, and will even be used to patrol with small infantry elements from time to time in contested areas. The S5 Hussar is an upgraded version of the S4, which in the minds of many humans, shifted the tide of plantery combat in the First Contact War, leading humanity to win the conflict.

H-3 'Tiger' Light Hover Tank

Short Desc: The H-3 'Tiger' Hover Tank is the lightest and most mobile of all tanks that the UHS can field. Sacrificing armor for firepower and mobility, the Tiger actually has a powerful main cannon capable of ripping through most armor it finds itself against. While it may lack armor, the Tiger can be considered a 'Tank Destroyer' with a powerful cannon. The Tiger relies on its speed to outmaneuver enemy armor and anti-tank weapons, and then uses its heavy cannon to destroy any opposition. For Infantry, a small chaingun sits at the side of it's main cannon.

A-4 'Jager' Main Battle Tank

Short Desc: The A-4 'Jager' Main Battle Tank is the main tank of the line for humanity. Sporting traditional treads, it is less maneuverable than the Tiger, it is an older model and it's cannon is slightly weaker yet it has much more armor and can withstand a beating. The Jager is also capable of laying down anti-infantry fire with a small turret at the top of it's main cannon. The major advantage that the Jager has over it's newer counterpart is heavier armor, stronger anti-infantry weaponry, and a counter-measure to other electronically vehicles in which the Jager can fire an EMP-like grenade to temporarily disable enemy armor.

Light Air and Spacecraft

HT-32 "Dragoon" Assault Dropship

Short Desc: The HT-32 "Dragoon" Assault Dropship is the main aerial and space transport used by the UHS. Armored heavily by lightweight metals and powered by quad turbo plasma engines, the Dragoon is a well protected and maneuverable craft. The Dragoon is capable of rotating it's engines to fly at jet like speeds or hovering and landing speeds. Every branch of the military is supported by this aerial workforce, capable of serving as a utility or assault vehicle. The Dragoon is capable of airlifting supplies and even light mechs and small vehicles. The universal Dragoon is a staple vehicle for utility transport, ground assault and even ship to ship combat insertions.

AG-12 'Kilgore' Gunship

Short Desc: The AG-12 "Kilgore" Gunship is a universal fast attack fighter/interceptor in space and a Close Air Support Gunship on a planets surface. The Kilgore shares a same design as the Dragoon being able to move at jet speeds or hover speeds depending on the situation. The Kilgore gunship is outfitted with a 50MM Forward Mounted Chaingun along with several pods of heavy missiles. The Kilgore can also be outfitted with EMP Torpedos and an under mounted Railgun replacing the 50MM Chaingun and heavy missiles.

ASG-01 "Tarantula Hawk" Stealth Transport Gunship

Short Desc: The Tarantula Hawk is the top of the line in latest human technology. This craft is utilized solely by Imperial Vanguard Units. The Tarantula Hawk transports troops and utilizes two 30MM side cannons, EMP Torpedos and an undermounted rotating Railgun Turret. The Tarantula Hawk is outfitted with the latest in human stealth technology, some of which is even intended for use in Cruisers. The Tarantula Hawk is a very rare thing to see within the Alliance Military, it's sight inspiring the same feelings of inspiration and fear as the Vanguards do.
