Mass Effect versus the Combine

Post by Scout on Fri Apr 22, 2016 12:35 pm

Seeing that we have two servers, I thought it would be fit to pit the alien forces of Mass Effect against the aliens that know nothing but domination, the Combine

In this argument, we can use all the technology present in each universe, minus the Catalyst from Mass Effect 3 because that would probably have no affect on the Combine

It's difficult to gauge the capability of the Combine's space technology, as none seems present in the series. However, for balancing purposes, we will give the Combine one technology that they never mastered, which is teleportation inside their current dimension. So they could basically teleport into any planet, building, or ship that they wanted. It may be inaccurate (such as you saw in HL1, with alien forces sometimes teleporting inside the walls or completely outside of the targeted area) but it would teleport them there none the less.

You can also use iconic characters in your argument, that includes Shepard and people like Breen (Whatever affect he may have)

Some things to consider

  • Weapon Technology
  • Cohesion (a divided Galaxy versus the United Combine)
  • Numbers
  • Resources
  • Will

I would also like to mention that the Combine synthesize the races they conquer. It's very comparable to what the Reapers did. So, if the Combine overtook a colony of humans or asari, it wouldn't be out of reach to say that they synthetically modify these captured individuals to fight for the Combine. Transhumans, Transasari, Transturian, Transkrogan, all these things would probably exist in a Combine invasion of the Milky Way in the Mass Effect universe.

So, who would win a total war?

To be honest, I think the Reapers would have trouble at first, but overall, they would win. The Combine are advanced, but have not given up their biological nature completely, such as the Reapers.

The combine would win, Just consider the fact that the combine on earth were a -miniscule- amount, and that they were calling for backup when they made the super portal, they arent limited by one universe, as when they portaled through to earth, that was from a completely separate dimension, as xen's tearing into earth's dimension caused the combine to notice. The combine have undoubtedly an immense amount of resources, and considering they took over earth in seven hours they have experience in doing this.
The combine is an empire, not a detachment of a larger group, they're ruthless, cruel, and efficient. As for lapis' input, yeah they havent given up their biological nature, but they use that as a strength, they have many synths like the hunters and striders, both of which are powerful enough to withstand high explosives, and are just as ruthless as thoseabove them. Also note that the combine advisors are also synthetic and are grown in mass, they have immense telekinetic abilities and are masters of gathering information, considering they can extract memories via a brain stem.

I may not know what mass effect is, but the combine will win and then some.

If you don't know what Mass Effect is, you're probably haven't realized that the entire Galaxy is what's being attacked, not a single planet. The Reapers - the biggest threat to the entire galaxy, brought it together, and the Combine aren't fighting 7 million Earth inhabitants, they're fighting trillions of people of different species, some able to bend the world around them itself (biotic abilities).

If you don't know both sides I wouldn't really contribute to the argument, but your points are valid, however I don't think that saying the Combine's backup would give them huge advantage because in all likelyness there's more people in this galaxy then what the Combine have conquered. It doesn't matter if a Strider could withstand high explosives, Mass Effect has weapons that rip atoms apart from each other. One shot from a Dreadnought of any race would rip the Citadel in half.

Even considering the ability of the Combine's synths and how they turn people into it, the Reapers did the same thing, with a much more brutal and more effective process then the Combine ever could, and the galaxy still defeated the Reapers.

This is just a faction of the Galaxy's combined fleets.

It's hard to gauge the strength of the Combine. The Citadel is only a capitol on an occupied planet. I wish Valve would talk more about their own origin.

Agreed. It's nice to have mystery to some things, but it would be great to really know what the Combine are and what they've done.

Who would win? An entire Combine occupation force or a bunch of malnourished citizens?
